Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore this historical city.

Today, explore the city on your own or take one of the recommended private or small group optional tours. Get acquainted with the ancient heart of Athens and its most iconic archeological landmark. The Acropolis, the ancient citadel located on a high, rocky outcrop above the city, contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance. Other major attractions include the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Panathenaic Stadium, the Presidential Palace, Hadrian's Arch, the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, the University, the National Library and the Temple of Nike. Consider joining an optional tour to Cape Sounion in the afternoon.

This morning, pick up your rental car and set out for a scenic drive from Athens to the archaeological site of Mycenae (approximately 1.5 to 2 hours). Explore the glory of the ancient Mycenaean civilization and discover the gems of Nafplio, one of the best-preserved neoclassical towns in Greece. Visit the Royal Palace and the Tomb of Agamemnon. Admire the ruins of this fascinating civilization and learn about the Mycenean people and their way of life. Afterwards, visit the picturesque and romantic seaside town of Nafplio. Stroll along the cobblestone alleys and take in the beautiful architecture.

Enjoy a day at rest in Nafplion. We suggest sampling the local wines at one of the area's many vineyards.

This morning, you may want to stop at the spectacular archaeological site of Epidaurus to admire the ancient theatre and the famous Asklepion shrine. In the afternoon, return to Athens and drop off your rental car.
